Another simple step that is overlooked is finding out if the contractor has insurance. Shield Roofing has General Liability and Workers Compensation. We know that protection is very important and we value our customer’s assets.
While researching the roofing contractor you must find out if the contractor has a Certificate of Insurance. It is important that all insurance is paid in full before allowing the roofing contractor to begin any work on your property. Once the estimate is approved then you may contact Shield Roofing’s insurance provider and request our insurance certificate. Our insurance provider will send you a copy of Shield Roofing’s Certificate of Insurance (COI).
The COI contains very important sections. The items you must look for will be the insurance company’s name and address, the insured name which is Shield Roofing, the amount of insurance limits know as General Liability, the amount of insurance limit on Workers Compensation, and Certificate Holder.
A very important item is for you to verify that spelling of your name and your address is correct and is inserted in the Certificate Holder section. The Certificate Holder is your name and your address of the location of the actual physical location of the work being performed. Do not use a PO Box as your address on your Certificate of Insurance.
As stated earlier the insurance certificate is very important. If you are unclear you can become familiar with the look of a COI by going to this link http://www.lapl.org/facilities/ACORD.pdf. This link will show you a standard blank COI.
